wax right after buffing, that's what i did, usually on the last day after the last wetsand i let it sit in the sun for a few hours, on my orange bug i painted it in the dead of a canadian winter, no issues. unlike automotive paints that use hardners and reducers, the rust paint just has the mineral spirits and all the solvent gasses escape in 4 hours or so, from there on it just dries harder, automotive paints release gasses for weeks after painting, that's why u can't wax for at least 2 weeks.
