Did you do a final sand with 2000gt? If your surface is looking grey it is probably because of scratches in the surface. I think 800gt is too coarse. Using an electric polisher works great. However, even with the Turtle Wax POLISHING COMPOUND it takes time. Once you finish with the polishing compound you should come to a nice smooth surface.. then you could follow up with a wax. I am not sure if the paint is the problem because others have been successful.

thanks for the tips, I dont know how much more work i'm going to put into this car, its just my beater :-). I'm already satified with the results since my expectations where low to start with.
