I'm in the final prep process for trying this with my '63 Chevy pickup (using the 2/3 Rustoleum, 1/3 Penetrol path...we'll post pics as we go.) I figured if I was gonna put lipstick on this pig, I might as well do it right by taking off the trim. Since this is likely a weekend-only project, that means the truc's out of action for a month.

If you can let your project sit for that long, I think removing the trim is a better option. But folks who need to drive as they go don't have that luxury. Whichever you choose, just do as much prep work as possible and take your time. Far better to be a week late with a nice job than on time with a mess.

BTW, here's what I started with a year ago...wish me luck!
