One thing about red and yellow paint is that in my experience they always require more coats than other paint. They are both very translucent. If I were doing either of those colours I would likely do one or two coats of white before the red or yellow coats as a base.

For any large scratches or chips that appear use “Icing” or "Polyester glazing putty" Do not use anything that doesn’t mix with a hardener. The air-dry stuff in a tube takes 24 hours to dry, will shrink and can be affected by solvents in the paint.
