The factories have used "Waterglass" - sodium silicate - to treat porosity problems for decades. There are many variations of it, including one that for years was used to seal eggs to keep them from incubating. I was told years ago that every trans case run at one of the local GM plants was dipped to prevent porosity and the resulting leaks. Look it up in Wikipedia and you will be amazed at it's uses.
