Rachael was only two cars behind me in the staging lanes, so she was staging as I stood there helplessly by the Valiant on the return road. The extra lift that the N20 provides to the front end of the Belvedere didn't appear until well after sixty foot, but the 440 sounded good, and the shifts were on time. I could tell she let off the bottle just past the 1K clocks, and when Lohnes announced 11.62 at 114.9, I was very pleased.
She drove up the return road, grabbed her time slip, and was studiously reading it as she blew right past me! If I'd have stepped out in the road, the Belvedere would have a new hood ornament.
