Danny, congratulations on the wife going for 500/Daytona loan! That's awesome! I guess now the hunt's really on! It's only a matter of time now. Oh, and yes, Wayne's #99 car is indeed an original Hemi Daytona. One of it's darkest moments though was at the Talladega event in 1999 right after one of it's brightest moments. At Friday's festivities at the Talladega track, the folks from Dodge Motorsports asked Wayne if he would bring the #99 Daytona over to where they were holding their press conference to announce that Dodge would be returning to NASCAR in 2001. After an entire day of the #99 car being in the media spotlight, Wayne left the track late in the afternoon and began the 50 mile drive back to the motel in Birmingham. A little ways down the road, he ran into Carol Croxford and Doug Schellinger's mom who were stranded on an exit ramp on I-20 in Carol's B-5 Blue Superbird. Wayne missed the exit and was on the shoulder just beyond the exit. Wayne then attempted to back up across the exit ramp. At that same moment, some dude on a Harley decided from three lanes out, that he was getting off at that exit. He swerved across all three lanes right as Wayne was backing across the ramp. The Harley took out the entire driver's side of Wayne's Daytona. The guy on the Harley was messed up pretty good and Wayne got knocked around inside the Daytona a little but was OK. Wayne went home to Kansas and got a flatbed (he had driven the Daytona all the way to Talladega) and the car is back to being just as good as new.
