It looks like the older style aftermarket fans won't handle the direct 12v signal. Apparently, a 40 amp feed is a little too much for it. I haven't tried the old style factory fans. I could set one up to run but my battery charger will only hold 20 amps. It would eventually discharge the battery.
The new style fans don't have any issues.
