I angled it for the picture to give a better idea on what it looks like. When you look at it straight on it appears to be symmetrical i.e. no bends or twists in either direction. As near as I can tell in a dark shed and working around the tire it fits equally well on either side.

The ear you see is a bolt on part (and note there is a hole also drilled on the close side of the bracket). You may be correct but as far as I can tell I believe they are the same.
