It's not so much that it's the 9".........it's the fact that something is considered better than what came from their beloved Mopar. Look at it logically. Chrysler did NOT own Dana, they simply bought parts from them, just like every other car maker did. But since Chrysler chose to buy Danas for some passenger cars for a few years, because even they knew the 8.75 wouldn't cut the mustard, that immediately makes the Dana a Mopar rear in the eyes of purists. What if they had decided to buy the 9" from Ford? After all, they had the Super Track Pack 9" option, which had a nodular center, upgraded support, 31 spline axles and a locker. Bad azz factory rear that would have easily held up behind the Hemi cars. IF Mopar would have done that(and some there wanted that), all here would be singing the praises of the rear..........but since Mopar opted for the mighty truck rear instead, they are great and 9" is overpriced junk.

Not unusual for one maker to buy from another. Chrysler bought all it's steering gear parts from Saginaw for years. GM owns Saginaw.
