When I opened the package the rifle was in the original envelope containing the first check was sealed in a plastic bag with a large portion of one corner torn off and forklift tracks all over it.
I've gotten deliveries from USPS where the original, not fit to travel alone, envelope was stuffed in to another one. Not often, but it's happened. Back in the 90s I was a vendor for FedEx and I had limited access to some of their systems. At that time it was still an IBM main frame so less than easy to navigate. I did happen to find a page where they auctioned off damaged packages to employees. Some of it damaged and they paid the claim, some just missing the address label so no clue where it was coming from or going to. Yeah, back in the dark ages before bar code stickers. It was a pretty long list then and I doubt it's gotten any shorter as the quality of their management has slid.
