I restored my VIN tag by stripping the paint, repainting, then applying the logo using the dry transfer from ECS. I also bought their roset rivets. When I went to pick up the dash pad, I brought the VIN plate and the rivets, and had JD attach it. There was no problem with the pad being too thick, and it did not distort at all when riveted. If I didn't pay them cash when I dropped off the core, I would have had to pay an additional $330 rush service charge. I didn't want to wait the 10-12 weeks I was told it would take. You can see in a couple of the photos how the dash frame is attached to the stand. It is only attached on the sides using steel angle brackets that are attached to a 2x3, which is attached to a piece of particle board.
