Only 500? I figure a solid roller with some oval port Indy heads will put me in the 600 range as the last one I built was a hydraulic roller and it made 570 on the dyno. It really wanted to keep spinning up in rpm but the lifters would not support it over 6500 rpm. Plus, the tall lifter and relatively short pushrod made the intake pushrod angle look really really severe. Thankfully I wasn't footing the bill on that one, I just assembled it and ported the heads.
Regardless, 570+ hp in an approximately 3200 lb challenger with a six speed should make for a great deal of fun.
Honestly I really enjoy the engine aspect of a project. The rest is just a wrapper that needs to do the engine justice. Unfortunately I don't work at a machine shop anymore so I'm glad I have the short block finished minus crank balance.
I kinda feel like I stole the thread...
