I'm glad that someone is learing from one of my mistakes. Now if I could only learn from them....

You should be okay with that much air. Will the urethane melt before the rubber breaks up? My rubber bushings never melted. They got cooked and fell off in pieces. A little wrap or light heat shield should do the trick.

It's hard to see the clearance from this angle but the driver's side had no issues at all. The passenger side was so close that when the bushing died the threaded end of the shock beat a dent into the header.
