You can take something to a UPS store, pay to have THEM pack it after selling you a box and packing materials, buy insurance, and then have a claim denied because "the article was not packed correctly." They don't care.
The excuse I've seen is that many UPS stores are franchisee-owned (not directly owned by UPS), so UPS is not responsible if a non-corporate store did the packing! What a racket.
in my OPINION, if you took the independent contractor to small claims court for improper packing it would be a slam dunk judgement in your favor.
