I think 4.56's would be ideal for this engine, with a trap rpm of 7600+ that would take advantage of the acceleration early like the class cars do. However, with as many runs as I make I don't like the idea of leaning on it that hard. Someone else can have that honor and the glory.

Would be fun to put this engine in a lighter car. In bench racers theory, a <2800# car, 904 trans and more rear gear should be capable of high 8's

Could it be that your heads are too big?
Wonder if less flow top end , which most of the time = more mid range , would work better?
I was always under the impression that there are two ways to feed a port.
RPM or CID.

I have already posted on moparts my step by step port on apache heads and what to expect on flow. I do not make them big.

The stock port size is bigger than Chip's ports on his 572 hemi
