The pump gear ate into the stator support face, like there was a thrust issue or not enough clearance. There was some damage to the converter too that I have to have fixed. I thought I had enough clearance, but maybe not or maybe I ballooned the converter - which would be weird since the 440 that was in front of it didn't make a huge amount of power. The front pump bushing actually looked pretty good so the converter to pump drive tube concentricity was close. At least with the small block case, I don't have to deal with centering the bellhousing on the front pump bore like you have to do with the JW ultrabell. Got the pump today, so I am hoping to get the trans air checked and buttoned up tonight.
