You may not need a proportioning valve if the ratio of front caliper piston area to rear caliper piston area happens to be OK for the front to rear weight distribution of your car. Rotor diameters are also part of the equation, but not by much.

I don't have a prop valve on my 4 wheel disc Coronet, but I have not been able to test the balance yet. I test for balance by doing panic stops in the wet to make sure the car does not want to swap ends in a panic stop when it's wet outside. The rear disc kit is from Dr Diff. It's a small single piston Cobra caliper with an 11.7" rotor, so I may not need a prop valve.
