The EV mandate comes from folks who don't live in the real world: Government-employed academics and ivory-tower idealists, who lack common sense, but are likely to be invested in the industries they force on the People. EVs are fine for short trips in moderate-climate cities that have the infrastructure to support them, and that's pretty much it.
