POS, the AMG brakes I run might not fit 17" wheels. When mounted on my 18" Smoothie IIs I have really tight clearances. It's almost feeler gauge tight. However, these wheels have a raised runner in the back side of the drum that causes the issue.
Looking at the wheels you have now in the magazine article pics, I can see things are tight, but you're right. Might be that ridge. I'm currently waiting for my wheels to arrive in order to know what kind of room I am working with. I'm thinking 1/4 inch within the rim would be enough clearance given everything else is clear too.
It's just a waiting game for me now. I have the viper brackets I have to install on my rear axle, and then I have to acquire the calipers and rotors. This is just something I decided to do yesterday!
