I'll start filling in some detail that I didn't have time for before. The cam end play was way off, so I ordered some shims from McMaster car and got that dialed in, then torqued the cam gear bolt with orange locktite. After I got the heads back on, Cam came and helped out. He got the intake cleaned up and ready to install and got the linkage for the 8 carbs all re-adjusted, and we lifted that on and bolted it down. When we started the car, water was pouring out under the drivers side header flange, staining from the copper seal head gasket sealer was visible on the outside of the block under the leak area.

I don't regret the things I've done. I only regret the things I didn't do.
