i have a set of the 15x5 1/2" big cap wheels and looked around at having them widened. i thought it was cost prohibitive and didn't care for the way the work would be done. so, i played with some different ideas, including a spring steel clip, and the angle brackets was the easiest and most secure way to attach the cap. if you can do some welding the cost is very low.

Lewto184, I think that you are right on. I checked on having some wheels widened and came to the same conclusion. Just ordered a pair of 15X6 4"BS and a pair of 15X10 4 3/4" BS from Speciality Wheel. They have to be made of course, taking a couple of weeks, and I still have to adapt the early hubcaps as they are made with the later centers. I ordered them in raw steel so not only are they cheaper, but ready to weld on. After indicating them to check for runout and trueness, I'll do exactly what you did before I paint them.
