Had a lightweight '67 Dart with a hot 340 that would smoke stock hemi Challenger without breaking a sweat.

Aluminum flywheel, 4:10's out back and it was wind up and go! By time the other guy hooked up I was already up and gone and that 340 was singling it's song.

The Detroit cars had a considerable hard core reputation, if this car was near stock it was a poser. [/quote

In the seventies, my town and another town in KY had legendary 340 GTS’s . No doubt many others did too.

In the early 70's my brother and a bunch of his buddies were involved in street racing. In the summer of 71 one of the local guys had a cousin from Chicago come to visit. He drove in a 71 340 four speed Demon from Mr Norms, on the first night of racing he cleaned all the local hitters clocks, I grew up and still live in a rural area and know of a bunch of roads in the surrounding area that had 1/4 mile stretches marked off. There is only a caution light in my closest town so no stop light racing. LOL
