Keep in mind that there are two holes in the cam journal. Find one and try the pump. If nothing happens turn the engine more until the wire finds the other end of the hole. One end of the passage needs to line up with the passage to the head, the other end has to be at 6:00 so that oil can make it into the cam. You're probably fine and I would have started the thing up by now. That said, I did help out a friend recently who had a new roller cam with the hole angles off and they never lined up with the holes in the cam bearing and block simultaneously. It took some die grinder work to chamfer the holes until they did line up. Some expensive pushrods and rockers got burned up before the problem was solved.
