I got the seams welded up on the cowl area. I melted the lead off the cowl, mig welded the seams solid, and used USC All Metal w/ high grade body filler to finish everything off. The cowl is now ready for 3 coats of epoxy prime and the areas that had filler work done will get coated with 3 coats of PPG K36 filler primer. The filler primer will get wet sanded with 500 grit and the cowl and engine compartment will be epoxy primed again with PPG DP90LF black epoxy primer. I like to let my fillers cure for at least 24 hours before i prime over them. Body filler shrinks and is omitting chemicals. I don't like to trap that stuff under the primer.
