I do the cross drilling, and have had no problems. I know of some very well known SS guys who groove the crank journals. Yeah, I know, weakens the crank...but I'm telling you, it's a FACT. These are well known AH guys who couldn't care less what any of us think. Their stuff lives, they go fast, and win races. Every one hear would know them. Since no one can see in side while oil is flowing, we all must take our best guess.

WJ had an article many years ago stating that pressure meant nothing, you must have flow to carry away the heat. Plain bearings creat heat shearing the oil, and that heat must be carried away.

Truth is, some people have great luck with 1/2 grooves and stock pumps. The factory first provided full groove bearings 40 years ago. Chevys never use full grooves, that I know of? My 565 chevy uses 1/2 groove. My 543 Mopar uses 1/2 grooves with cross drill, and HV milodon. Every approach works for some body.

I believe flow is the key.
