adjusted the bands on my 904 before going to the track yesterday. made 2 passes @6.74 and 6.75 next 2 passes were 6.80 and 6.79. the 6.80 was in the heat but the 79 was about 12 degrees cooler. but the shift from 1st to second seemed to overlap each other. second to third were fine . is the band to tight or too loose ?

did it do it before the adjustment? if not then just back it off 1/8 to a 1/4 turn and see if it goes away, usually it is a 2-3 shift overlap/flare up problem, how is your tranny built? stock, rebuilt with good part's?

"snug" ? ... .... I have just done-it with a little-bitty open-end wrench USING the tip-O-my-finger

My experience it does that when the band is too loose going into second
tighten 1/2 turn and try again. higher number kickdown levers 4.2 or 5.0
do not like to much play. 72 inch pounds 6 lbs is pretty tight so the wrist snug thing I go 1.5 turns back.

Does the valve body have LBA? What type of rear band, solid or double wrap?

If you have overlap on the 1-2 shift with a LBA valve body chances are the rear band is too tight, double wrap needs to be looser than 2 turns out.

too tight, like I said before back it off 1/4 turn and try it again and see if there is an improvement, I adjust mine as tight as my finger's will turn the stud in the center and back it off 1 and 1/2 turn's, I run a TA valvebody with a 4.2 lever.
