Your clutchs' in-ability to slip.

For sure the posters problem with 60 ft. If you had a 5.88 rear gear and a 3.09 low gear in trans. you could probably side step the clutch.

You cant just dump the clutch. You need to let it out in stages. I have made a couple passes in my SRT-8 Challenger and let it out in 3 stages. Dumping it all at once was a horible 2.11 60 ft. Then in stages I got a 2.00 60 ft. Motor still bogged so next trip I will try a higher RPM and hopefully not find tire spin. Car went 13.20 at 108.50 MPH with the 2.11 60ft. On the 2nd pass with the 2.00 60 ft. I missed 2nd gear, and the staging lane were closed so I wont get another chance until tommorow.

You can just dump the clutch with enough gear and good tires that hook. I did it all the time when I raced my 4-speed Dart with 4.56's and 28" slicks. But most street cars you have to do as you stated. My sons SRT-4 would spin the BF drag radials on it as it had an open diff and I got better times then anyone else out of it by working the clutch. The trick was to launch as fast as you can without any tire spin. It took a few practice runs to nail it down. Ron
