Well you are aware of your 60'time woes,gearing has alot to do with that.If you are still running a 23 spline unit you may want to look into a 3.09 gear set for your trans.With your power level I think you can overcome the gear spread.When I had a 2.65 low and 3.55's I could only get a 1.68 short time.Now I have a 3.27 low and a 3.54 rear gear and I love that combo Thats the great thing about a Richmond 5-speed,it's strong as a HEMI box but with an extra low gear As far as powershifting goes its just practice and perfect timing between your hand and foot.Some oldtimers(me included)try to keep the shifter close to the next direction instead of keeping it pushed up or pulled in the gear you are in.

I am running the original trans that is a 18 spline unit. Getting my car moving from a dead stop with my gear and tire height is part of the problem. But it does make it a nice driver on the highway at 70mph.
