IMHO, Display Port is better, if only for the reason it avoids the issue HDMI sometimes has of over or under scanning. It's easily corrected in your video card software but I'd rather not have to fool with it. DP and HDMI both also carry audio signals, so there can be a bit less spaghetti behind the desk. 2ยข

Just yesterday I went through a long process (couple hours) of trouble shooting a monitor that would not come on. I had it hooked up through the HDMI port of the video card, with a powered HDMI to DP adapter and a very long cheap DP cable. After determining there was nothing wrong with the video card output or the monitor, I got an even longer HDMI cable and resolved the problem. The monitor is a 2013 model, no under or over scan issue arose so things may have changed. Better video cards or better software, I've no idea. Just happy it worked.
