Im not sure the distance really matters as an accumulator is a charged headspace in the running oil circuit so it should be constantly "on duty" and it should dampen even minute fluctuations in oil pressure.

Im actually more familiar with them in terms of industrial process control but I added one to my rocky and I love the added insurance. you can really tell a difference on the gauge that it's doing it's thing.
