Examining the new pinion I can see why cracks start in that area. Spent an hour polishing the edges and valleys of the teeth. Will it help? Can't hurt. Ran pinion shims from .40" to .060". All with back lash .010-.013. Lat one looks decent to me with .060"@.011 B/L.

Looks good Doug. I put a set of those rem polished gears in Fran's Dana and it sure is smooth but it's a lot more difficult to see the pattern during set-up. I'm sure the polish job helps with friction and might also reduce stress risers
