In IL, the collector car plate only allows vehicle use for 6 months of the year, but you can also get an extended collector car plate that can be used year around (as I understand it) without restrictions for up to 9 months, and the other three months use is for attending a show or getting the vehicle repaired. Both classic car plates exclude "daily use".

The concept of the reduced classic car plates is because the vehicles usually get used a lot less then daily drivers. The reduced price is supposed to be because the vehicle uses the roads less. Often times the States will use the specialty car plates to attach added restrictions that they can apply only to those specialty plates. IL has been known to slip a few extra restrictions in on those special plates.

Call me paranode if you want, but all of my stuff has regular plates on them. I don't trust the State leadership to act in my best interest nor on my behalf.
