I know exactly what both can do and the 12 valve will still return at least twice the fuel mileage. With mild upgrades like a fuel pin, exhaust and timing bump the 12 valve walks all over the V10, will out live the V10 and will still get twice the mileage.

I'm still not sure who you are trying to convince here since the OP said nothing about V10's to start with.

So let's do a little real world math. I drive a minimum of 480 miles/week. With my 12 valve getting 23 MPG that's 21 gallons a week at $2.90/gallon equals $60.52.

My V10 at 10 mpg is 48 gallons of gas at $2.40/gallon equals $115.20.

In 1 year that is a difference of $2843.36, in 2 years $5686.72, in 3 years it's $8530.08. The diesel engine option has already paid for itself and will continue to pay for itself with at least twice the longevity of the V10. Oil changes are a wash because you can go twice as long on a diesel between changes. Fuel filters are a non issue because spark plugs, coils and wires aren't free either.

So let's just agree to disagree. You keep your V10 and I'll keep my diesel.




If I was driving 480 miles per week commuting to work and fuel cost I'd be driving something better on fuel than a V10 or a cummins!
