......I had the same problem with the stock Mopar 6 qt. pan, 1/2" pu in my Hemi......

That's interesting. I've seen two Hemi pickups fail in my short and uneventful life and in both cases the owners told me they didn't check to make sure the pickup contacted the pan. The other item I've noticed is that the stock pickups have rolled threads and the aftermarket ones I've seen have cut threads. IMHO the stress riser at the end of the cut thread is a problem just waiting to happen although I'll admit I haven't seen it cause a problem in practice.

It depends on what the engine is subjected to.
A screw in pick up is the weakest pickup design, the cut threads weakens the pickup. I bet there are better pickups for that motor.

I broke a few off(custom welded pickup's)by big names and then the whole oil pump off a 572"BBC dragster even with a oil pump girdle...at least twice from tire shake.
Then I went to external belt driven oil pumps with a wet sump pan because it is more reliable than a screwed in pickup or welded in like mine were pickups.
