John, you are always an asset here and I have learned to rarely question your advice. I'm not arguing with you here, just an alternative perspective.
I ran the stock rockers even with a Comp .545 cam and later developed valve stem wear. After reading online tech stuff, I stumbled upon Comp's advice about running adjustable valvetrain to achieve preload. I've since read that my valve stem wear could have been due to rocker geometry, rocker tip misalignment, etc.
My changes to my 440/493 are part of an ongoing improvement and learning process. I have no doubt that this engine is serving as an 8 cylinder set of "training wheels" and that my next build will greatly benefit from the lessons I have learned.
