Amsoil mimmicks type F. It's the synthetic fluid I recommend for my builds. If not, name brand type F.

For a mostly stock torqueflite, I agree type F has its use. But my trans has 5 frictions in the front drum, and 165 psi line pressure. It doesn't need the extra friction of the type F, and I believe (hope?) Dexron will lubricate better.
And if you only change the fluid once a year (or less), I agree a name brand fluid would be my choice over a store brand.
My last fluid change, Castrol ATF was on sale almost as cheap as the store brand, so I bought the Castrol. Even though normally I use the cheap stuff. I put 7 qts in my setup when I change the fluid and filter every 30-40 passes, and my trans looks good inside (several inspections over the years). So, I am not spending $8-12/qt on fancy ATF. Have you seen the price of Royal Purple ATF?

dexron/mercon 5 in mine. I've seen the fluid issue debated many times. Many testimonials for mercon derivatives, and type F fluids. Personally, I think that over all these years of torqueflight use, by many different party's, one thing has been proven.... That A 727 doesn't care what fluid you use AS LONG as it was built right
