the converter does not charge in park. that bushing is pressurized in park, yes? maybe case misalignment?

The bushing is lubricated by the fluid that leaks past the pump rotors; if the crankshaft is turning, the pump rotors are turning and the bushing is being lubricated regardless of what gear it's in.

This reminds me of a plroblem I had years ago. I had a pump bushing failure twice before finding this little issue. Try looking at the dowl pins on the block and make sure that they are sticking out far enough to completly engage the mating holes in the transmission. In my car, the tapper on the dowl pin only engaged into the chamfer of the case and allowed it to move around. The end result was leaking converter seal and worn bushings. Allan G.

Quote:
a bad electrical ground can cause bushings to pit, flake apart.run a ground strap from trans to frame.hope this helps john.
I would check the car grounding (engine/trans/chassis)
