Try pulling the ECM fuse for however long it takes the memory to die (5 minutes?) and see how it behaves. Better than disconnecting the battery because nothing else like the radio or seat settings gets affected and the price is right.

My factory battery died at around 190K and it was disconnected for at least a couple of hours, no difference after a new battery was put it...
The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.
