Not really. The support rail only takes up space in the groove. With the oil package oriented right and compressed, that will be fine.



You could and are probably right in your statement.
If the support ring had a larger OD the chances of the oil rings sitting/butting on top of the support ring would be much less and allow an easier install without damage. In situations like this it would be suggested to try and push in the rings at their gaps and then compress them to install into the cylinder. That's how I am looking at this. I will be doing a Hemi in the future so this is good info.
