How many of you guys have your advance locked on your distributors? Would like to know reasoning and basic engine combos. Thanks, Beep

Dizzy's are locked out when using crank trigger... it can be a problem starting motor due to timing is at full advance from the go..some mills you can get cranking and flip on the ignition and it works fine..I had this setup on my motor and fought kick-backs, broken starters and starter ring gears...It is not worth the extra cash for the trigger in my opinion...

Thanks guys.

Ari440, Does your start retard pull 20* when cranking? I think the one I have is capable of that. Beep

i've locked my dizzy but then i'm using a timing computer & crank trigger. timing is 18* on start up, 23* from 500 - 4000rpm(brake limiter set at 38)4000 - 7500rpm 36* & decreases every 100 rpm above that. easy starting with this program & full power dont come on till after the brake is released & going for converter stall of 5500 rpm, easy on the engine this way

I run a FBO distributor. It has 10* advance built in. Full advance by 1800 rpm. My timing is set at 25* initial, and 35* full advance. Works for me. I spin the motor 1st, and then flip the ignition switch. Vrooom!!

I've offered this once before.

Buy a set of light advance springs.

Remove the two installed springs, install one of the light springs.

Advance is very quick and no starting problems. For the street, you can't beat this little trick

Paul

That's what I did as well, works great..No need for a $200 digital retard box and a trigger.

Locked out street/strip car 12.11 comp. stroked 400(470)and starts and runs fine even on 91 pump swill. Been that way for years and to me it`s easier than messing w/springs and bushings + idles better and can set total advance at idle w/out winging the hell out of the motor.

I use an MSD Distributor with the light springs and black(largest) stop. Timing is 17 at idle and 35 by 2400 rpm, no starting problems and has a lot cleaner idle.

One light spring, interesting

How soon do you get full advance with that setup (MSD dizzy)?

problem only running one spring is you some time get rpm's going up and down. if you run one light silver and one light blue it will keep it stable and accomplish the same thing
