I have touched up the upper part of the tubes with okay success, but have had no luck with the lower tubes and collectors. Especially if any rust has started. Master, again and still

Mopar2ya OP member M Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 63 Ontario, canada	They are Spitfire headers that i bought from Harold, and i had them coated by Fireball coatings in Ontario Canada. They started to dis-color immediatly after i put them on the car. The coating is about 7 years old now but i thought ceramic coating was a one time thing.

Immediate dulling and subsequent "flaking" are indicative of catastrophic failure. I.e., you did something wrong. It only takes minutes but somehow you ran it "too lean" or "too fat". Outside of a component failure, this typically results from starting a new, un-tuned engine with your freshly coated headers, or perhaps a dyno run... Another source for failure is bright ceramic on a turbo or supercharged application. A definite NO NO..... These applications and many others require a "High Temp Ceramic" which is rated much higher at 2000F+. It's almost impossible to hurt these without totally destroying an engine first. The reality of bright ceramic coatings is this, on a properly tuned engine they will last indefinitely. Make a mistake and you'll see it immediately. It sounds like either Marc didn't teach how to care for your coated headers or you had a mechanical issue. Did you opt for his ID coating as well? Please post some pics and background on the application and I'll I'll tell you how to fix it going forward. Below are a few samples of some similar problems.

I had my headers Titanium coated at a powder coating shop. I've run the dog poo poo out of them. Six, seven years old now. Still look great! They started out a little lighter than they are now, but it only looks better now. They look a bit dull in this pic. But they show fantastic! This was when I was removing my motor to prep the engine bay for painting.

Pretty good stuff for rattle can. I have eventually had problems with all the coatings on all my headers including Hooker's ceramic coating. With one exception; CCP Coatings out of Michigan. It looked different out of the box. Slicker and shinier than any of the others, more like what I think ceramic should look like. All the others looked somewhat duller and rougher in texture. CCP is all I intend to use in the future. One thing I always do on start-up is to have a cheap Harbor Freight laser temp gun in hand. I use it for more than the headers. Master, again and still

The fact that the headers dulled almost immediately pretty much negates any potential issue with prep. A prep issue will generally surface rather quickly as a chip, bubble, run etc. Beyond that, most failures come down to improper application / usage.

Silver. They are easily the best looking coated headers I have ever had. But then that isn't saying much. Your coating just looks slicker and smoother than the other company's coatings I have had. And that includes Hooker's, which lasted all of 5 years or so. And CCP thought that the shipping back to me was too high. So they re-boxed the headers to save some size and saved me several dollars of shipping. Without being asked to. Thanks guys! Master, again and still

I just had my TTI headers ceramic coated by Sanderson (a well known comapny) and they lasted a whole couple of days untill it fell off too.
