Hey guys whats up. I just purchased a 59 plymouth belvedere with a 413/ 2speed powerflite. The trans took a dump and was wondering if i could throw in a 727 behind the 413 that i have laying around. I know the drive shaft will be differnet and ill give up the pushbutton but i would much rather have the durabilty and driveability of the 727. Not sure whats behind the Bell, I am going to pull apart this week no matter what, but just wondering if anyone had any insight. Thanks!

Depends on the year of the 413,as long as it is 62 or newer you can use a 727,if 61 or older you will have to change the crank. Also that is a 60,not a 59.

Cheaper to find a BB iron trans and the TF buttons. The crank as said is different from a 62 up.Ive nere seen a BB with a 2 speed. All Ive seen are TFs.I beieve the 55 with the 331 had some with the 2 spd trans.Rocky

A '60 Plymouth wouldn't have come with a 413, largest was a 383 and that was always coupled to a Torqueflight not a Powerflite.

Is the distributor in the front or rear?

How many buttons on the pushbutton quadrant? Five buttons is a Torqueflight, four buttons is a Powerflite.

I believe the trans year you want will be a 62. First year for the aluminum case and last year that the buttons in your car (IF it is a Torqueflite) will work. If you do indeed have a 2 speed in it you could get a set of 3 spd buttons.

62 Trans is aluminum not cast iron. The early motors had an extended crank. The convertor for early motors is completely different than a 62.The crank would still need changed.I agree thats a 60.The motor can be a 413 if it was changed.Possibly they hooked up a 2 speed button setup to a TF trans.Rocky

I may be reading the post wrong, but the OP says that he is willing to give up the pushbutton. If he is willing to either change the steering column to a later model in order to fabricate shifter linkage, or use an aftermarket shifter with a 66 up torqueflite, the possibilities are endless. Of course the entire rearend would have to be changed in order to have an emergency brake setup and the driveshaft would have to be changed.

First he has to find out what motor it is.Ive never seen a BB with a 2 speed trans. That and if its a early engine the crank will definetly need changed to use a late trans.Rocky

Is it just me......or does the jackstand set-up look like a disaster waiting to happen? Be a cold day in the deep south before I'd crawl under that.

Has nothing to do with the OP's question!
