Ive been chasing my tail on this so I thought Id get yalls input. Im looking for 500+ streetable HP from a 440. Im looking for mid to low 11s with this.
Id like to use my tunnel ram and holley 600 carbs. Id also like to stay with a Hyd cam non roller
Everything else is changeable. I know this can be done with eddy heads a big roller ect ect. But Im looking to use what I have.
I have a stock late 70s 440 block and crank. I was going to keep the bottom end stock but bump compression to around 10-10.5 with a set of forged pistions. I also have a set of 452 heads.
Tranny will be 727 prepped with about a 3000-3500 stall. A Dana 60 with 4.10 gears tires about 28-30in.
Are you looking for a Pump gas engine or...
This is what i built from a lowdeck, in the end, it was over 500hp i'm sure, but at 1st., it was really mild & ran 10.9s in a 3100lb. duster, i had around 3500.00 carb too pan, give or take alittle on the initial buld.
400 .030", 440 crank/rods. (counter weights cut) Stock rods with ARP wave lock bolts Ross FTs, 9.73, Z gap rings 906s with just a good VJ, untouched ports, stainless 208/1.74 valves. Ductile iron rockers Comp. XE284H, M1 single, 750 holley 1.7/8 FWs 4.11s, 28" slick, 4400 PTC 9.5" Best: 10.91 @ 120.56 on a 1.51 in the best air.
Before i got the 4400 stall, i had a PTC 11" 3000, it pulled of an 11.12 on a 1.58 @ 120
Changes... Added a Wieand TR & 2 600vs Comp custom solid 529/543 (before lash), 250/256 @50 on a 108. Home ported the 906s, flowed 264/198 with the same valves. added Caltracs With alittle basic tuneing on the carbs, & suspention going south, the 1st. & only pass in the summer heat.
Ran a 10.87 @ 123.58 on a 1.62 60ft.
This car had 10.6s ritten all over it, just didn't 60ft. towards the end, raced it for 2 yrs. with over 250 passes on it, in all reality, it was a mild engine, but built right, they will run the #s.
