i can't remember if that was brought up during a cast valve cover discussion or a gasket sealing discussion.
regardless, if the tin cover is deforming, sealing is going to go away, and more torque applied is going to make it worse.
it is harder to get an "as cast" surface to seal than it is to seal a machined surface.

I did notice the angle of the holes slightly "off" when I chased the threads... I wasn't sure though but now that you mention it...

I got the bolts on there at 80 inch lbs now and I'm not going to go tighter! Like I said, if I have to do it over or whenever I do, I'll get studs and load spreaders. That should take care of it!
