One direction I’m contemplating is moving to the Gen3 platform vs building a RB stroker. I will be selling my collection of B / RB engines & parts as well as the current engine in the truck to fund this – I estimate I will have about $4500 (+/-) to dedicated towards the engine. I intend to bite the bullet and go EFI on this one, which will require a fuel system up grade (lines + tank)

I’m estimating a Gen3 (w/ 904) at 500 - 525hp at the crank would accomplish my goals – open for debate if someone sees differently

If one was starting from scratch, what is the best course of action for simple n/a Gen3 build?

Two specific options I’m looking at (based on ease of getting it up running and swapped) are:
1) sbe 5.7 w/ eagle heads and 273 cam – a member on here built a similar combo with good results
2) sbe 6.1 w/ cam

I could be way off base here but I’d love to hear some advice / combos from those that have been down this road. Seems like there are a lot of "template" builds for the B/ RB stuff but not much for the Gen3 platform.



My youngest daughter has a 76 D100 RC stepside 4x2 triangulated 4 link ,Dana 60 started off with 4.10s .The 1st G3 that was in it was stock 08 long block ,Hughes SER3034 .582/.589 230/234@50 with the OCP intake, Holley 780 MSD Hemi-6 ,A833 truck weighed in at 3650 race weight , intake held it back but it still went 11.80s at 109-112(EST HP 425)
We changed the heads over to a set of locally ported 06's .with 2.02/1.60 valves milled .030, XV intake ,same cam and carb , up it about 45-50 hp and now was going thru the traps @7000 changed over to 4.56s truck went a best 11.40s @ 117/8 Next we installed a 347CI G3 3.922X3.59 DSS pistons,Molnar crankshaft,Compression was in the high 11s, heads redone exhaust ports were heavily modified , idea came from Shady Dell's B1-Ba D shape port, Cam was Hughes Custom grind, .600/590,260/260 @ 50 , very High strung shift point was now in the 7400 range at this point the XV intake was the weak link. trans was changed over to a T-56 she still drove this 76 to work 2x a week ,and we live about 40 Min from Island drag way in NJ.this combo went 10.90s@ 120/122.estHp 550/560hp Intake really held it back, but we were limited in intake choices, I think it could of gone in to the high 59X- 6XX Hp with a intake that used the older intake port shape.
Current Combo is 396Ci 5.7 Based 3.947X4.05 , Heads are mostly stock Eagles, 2.08 and 1.625 valves no port work just cleaned up the bowls after machine work and gave the heads a burr finish,they still have the "push rod humps" went back to the Hughes SER3034 cam shaft , Prefix intake manifold 4.10s , truck is much more street-able and still runs High 10s on pump gas(93).

New combo is a 441Ci BGE based 4.125X4.125(modified 4.08 crankshaft) Ported Apaches 2.20X1.65, Cam is up in the air right now waiting on our builder to get back to us . bought a drag pak intake and switching over to EFI. she's aiming for mid 9s with it now ...she wants to b!tch slap the ole mans G2 hemi D100....she's a pit bull once she gets a bit on something she goes for the kill.

My builder has a 78 Warlock Original 440 truck that has a relatively stock 2014 SRT392, Ritter intake and Comp cams 201-428-17 .619/.612 226/234@50 truck runs 10.80s@120s this truck weighs in around 3200 and has been a dedicated "race truck" since the 80s. well sorted chassis.
