We have a street car 71 cuda also and let me start off with this was the biggest pig I have ever driven..lol We had nothing but problems with it leaking everywhere, smoking, & just no power so we pulled it out last year and this is what we found.Chrysler or whoever did this motor did not debur the block where the push rods come through, so it was eating the pushrods. I could move the springs around under the retainers, like literally, wrong retainers. The guide clearance was just about 50 thousandths. Also the camshaft eccentric for the fuel pump was going south.
we started with torque plating and diamond honing the block
added total seal rings
good stone valve job
correct retainers
bronze guides
Racer Brown 485 lift 238 dur. cam
cometic head,intake,& valve cover gaskets
we also changed out the crate rocker arms to original rockers
So the long short of it is now no leaks & PLENTY of power for a street car. This has a stock 2x4 intake & stock 68 auto carbs on it.
I never liked the crate motors, and this one has took the cake.
I am very happy with it now! I even have video for you guys.
sounds healthy idling and very responsive.
Made 554hp & 598tq with 93 oct. pump gas with
32 total deg. of timing....
