I went to a 4 foot cable after i burned up the one that came with the shifter for my 69 charger, the length is perfect routed like he said

I just went through this about a month ago though on a different application, W2 small block A body, 904. The header tubes are larger on the W2 TTis so they create some clearance issues.

The shifter comes with the 5 foot Super Duty cable and it was laying right on the number 5 tube. Went to a 4 foot regular duty cable (less sheathing material) and it worked perfectly. Nowhere near any heat. The regular duty is a little more flexible which helps with routing. A 3 foot cable would have been too short.

Like some suggested above, I tried to route it around the right side with the 5 foot but the angle of the cable where it attaches to the pan bracket was too severe and it was causing binding.
