Modern engines with good ignitions don't crank for 30 seconds before starting . Even the old starters won't make that sound if the engine starts instantly. Maybe some purists who still run original ignition systems with point distributors may enjoy the sound of the old-style starters that crank a long time before starting.
Modern engines start instantly because they are fuel injected.
