Well I have seen more than one 489 case split the crush sleeve right down the side when you shock them with weight,horsepower,and traction. I have also rebuilt 9" rears that also split that little tiny sleeve I went to a Dana before that happened to my 8 3/4(alot easier to sell before the look like yours) If you stay with an 8 3/4 do yourself a favor and get a 742 unit Gus
